Mike was a good friend of my brother, Mike Verseckes. He tragically died in a horrible car accident, along with 2 more students in 1968. I don't remember exactly where the accident happened, only that in Ft Worth, was a hill that students liked to drive for fun because cars would momentarily be suspended in the air before landing on the pavement. Unfortunately, Mike and his friends might have been going at a high rate of speed and lost control of the car. This was a very sad moment in all of our lives at Arlington Heights.

Mike Malone, my cheerleading partner!  I remember the fun times we had at SMU cheerleading school in the summer of 1967.  We all looked forward to our year, as seniors.

We didn't have cheerleader practice (or we quit early) the night of the accident (September 1967) because we were working on our individual home room homecoming decorations; details may not be exact.  It was a sad and overwhelming time for all of us.  I miss them (Mike Smith, Mike Malone and Scotty Moncrief) to this day.

Mike was my best friend from the third grade until his death. We spent many a weekend working on his parents' ranch and just doing things together. Melissa, he really did enjoy your time together as cheerleaders and he gave me a picture of the two of you at SMU at the cheerleading camp. The loss of Mike, Scotty, and and Mike Smith was one of the defining moments of my life in Fort Worth.
