In 10th grade, Rob and I both played football on the sophomore "B"-team, and our lockers were next to each other in the fieldhouse. One Friday night, my girlfriend spent the night on a sleepover with a number of other girls. I found out that Rob and some other guys had crashed the party at a late hour... I got suspicious, knowing my girlfriend, and began bugging Rob about it on Monday, while we were suiting-up for practice. I played like I already knew that he had kissed her during the fun that Friday night and suggested that he should pay me $0.50 for having taken advantage while I wasn't around. He denied the charge, but, the next day when I got to my locker before practice, I found 2 shiny quarters on the bench; right where he'd left them!

Pat, love reading your stories. Keep 'em coming! If therecould be a microphone Friday night or Saturday night at the Reunion for folks to tell stories, I would be front and center listening!

Tres Ross

Rob was a starting defensive end our senior year. His biggest mismatch was when Heights played North Side High. The Steers had an All State Offensive lineman set against Rob.  That guy was huge for the time, 240 pounds. Rob was 180 if that.  Basically, that guy had no problem pushing Rob around. By the second half of the game, Rob was no longer down in a 3 point stance, he stood up and tried to jump out of the way of the mountain blocking him. Rob’s main success was when he grabbed the green jersey and pulled the giant down. After the game, I met the team bus back at school and talked to Rob about surviving the game.  All he could do is smile and say, “I’m glad I never have to play that team again !”  Sorry I will not be able to talk about that game with you at the 50th.  Sigh.

Tres, thank you for sharing and giving me a laugh with Rob's comment.

Rob was a good person to have as a friend.  He was handsome, funny, loyal, compassionate and had a really cute grin that lit up his face...and mine.  I enjoyed our time as lab partners in Coach Ludiker's biology class.  Debbie Charles was his assistant at the time and Coach would ask her to be in charge yeswhen he left the room...frequently.   (Where did teachers go when they left the classroom?)

Judy Day and Rob double-dated with John and me (or is it and I...can't remember) a few times.  John and Rob were also friends and shared an apartment for a semester in college. Jeanne O'Brien and I were in a dorm across the street.      Thanks, Rob, for the good memories.
