In Memory

Jan Stephens (Herndon)

Jan Stephens Herndon passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 1, 2013, during her 62nd year, after a long battle with cancer. Memorial service: Friends will gather at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to celebrate Jan's life at the home of Holly Ragan, 3904 Tamworth Road, Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the SPCA, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on July 31, 1950, Jan graduated from Arlington Heights High School. She was surrounded all her life by friends who loved and cherished her for her optimism, wicked sense of humor and generosity. Jan never had a bad day; she lived her life in gratitude for her blessings, and loved to laugh and have fun. She was one of a kind, and her many friends have used different words like fearless, innocent, confident and uninhibited to describe her. There are some missing links in her story though; her friends will have to wait to hear the story from Jan in heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Ollie Stephens.

Just as I loved you when we were 3, I love you now.
Only I miss you now so much.

I remember Jan being a very nice girl in high school.  She had a wonderful smile and made you feel like her friend when she  saw you. God bless you, Jan.

My childhood without Jan...no bike riding on the west side of Fort Worth; no all-day monopoly games; no $.25 burgers at the drug store close to her home; no bowling, putt-putt or trampoline partner; no sleep/slumber parties where your clothes were hung on her trees in the back yard at night to find in the morning; no clothes found in the freezer; no hanging onto Jan, who was hanging onto Ernie Reeves on his little motorized bike (motor cycle?) in the hills of Ridglea Hills.

We shared most of these with Janie Thomas, Linda Price, Sandra Owen, Teresa Jones and Annetta Stinnett.

Jan was a good friend and also gave me many fond memories as we aged.  I miss her.

Well. My friend, tomorrow would be your 68 birthday.  All the plans we made to spend our “old” years together are gone, but you still hold a special place in my heart.  We will always be together in spirit and someday for eternity.  From kindergarten to retirement, with exception of a short “vacation” we planned and hope for a future together. I love you. I miss you. RIP my good friend💕💕

Melissa I think you just about covered it all. I think it was Skillerns (probably miss-spelled) ❤️😢

Happy Birthday Day Jan.  I will miss seeing you.  I’ll always remember you driving around in that white Ford Falcon   It would always beat my VW Bug
