Kathy was my “secret girlfriend” in 6th grade.  I asked her to go steady after a  dance class with “Lieto the Frito.”  ..I was really scared of her dad who was Vice-Principal at Stripling.

I believe the first time I "knew" about Kathy was in elementary school, when she was at North Hi Mount and I was at Crestwood.  We both attended Stripling and AHHS, but we did not formally meet until the summer after our junior year at Heights, when we were both rookie lifeguards at Rivercrest.  She was friendly, nice, pretty, smart and funny.  I immediately took a liking to her.  One day, about midsummer 1967, she asked me "How do you like attending Paschal?".  I was crushed, when she said that.  How could she think I went to Paschal, after I had been aware of her since the sixth grade and had attended Stripling and Heights with her???  I decided that I just needed to get out more, and after a while, I got over it.  Our friendship got back on track and continued to develop over the remainder of the summer. We had an inside joke about me being "the Paschal kid".  Later, during our senior year, she introduced me to Mark, her boyfriend and subsequent husband. The three of us became good friends for the remainder of her life.  Kathy went to TCU and earned a degree in Interior Design.  After graduation, she took a job in Denver as a design-sales consultant with a national department store.  My memory is that she passed away in 1975 or 1976 after suffering a cardiac event at work in Denver.  Kathy had a lot to offer the world and she died way too early.  I will always remember her as "forever young" by her picture in the 1968 annual.  RIP Kathy.  I think of you often.

The earliest memories are of her as a classmate at North Hi Mount.

...and the many others I had from 2nd thru 4th at NHM.
